I want to comment about my moderation policy on E-cat World. I have mentioned before that I like to have a light touch when it comes to moderationg, and prefer to do so sparingly. I don’t mind if people present different point of views about the topics featured on this site, so long as they can do so without being overly obnoxious about it. By ‘obnoxious’ I mean being personally insulting to other posters, using profanity, getting seriously and repeatedly off topic, or generally being very unpleasant and annoying. Another thing I would like to avoid is for this site to become a forum where posters get involved in debates, with repeated posts back and forth making essentially the same point about the same thing over and over is something I would prefer to stay away from on this site. Please don’t take this to mean that I want to stop people chatting with each other in the comments section. There are many interesting exchanges taking place here, and I want to encourage that. I will continue to favor the ‘light touch’ approach, but I may start pruning threads if endless debates continue where little new information is being shared. [...]

The most recent issue of the American Chemical Society’s Chemical and Engineering News magazine includes an article entitled, “Reviving Cold Fusion.” written by Steven K. Ritter. The brief summary reads, “After 20-plus years of outcast status, unconventional heat-producing nuclear reactions still seem plausible”. The ACS does not permit its publications to be published for free online, and copyright restrictions allow me to only provide selected excerpts here. The article is really a review of the history and current state of LENR, much of its content is what people following recent developments in LENR research already know. Ritter contacted a number of people involved in the field, including Dennis Bushnell of NASA, Robert Duncan of the University of Missouri, Steven B. Krivit of New Energy Times, and Andrea Rossi. Quite a bit of the article is devoted to describing Rossi’s E-Cat, and emphasizes that as yet it is unproven. Bushnell maintains that, “From more than two decades of experiments producing heat and transmutations, ‘something’ is real and happening.” Krivit says of the E-Cat, ““Rossi has no credible evidence for his extraordinary claims, I have stopped paying attention to him.” Duncan states, ” “I don’t need to have an opinion about the [...]

Just a day or so after stating that Leonardo Corp. would be be building E-Cats in Italy, Andrea Rossi changed his mind. The reason behind the reversal: a statement by an Italian official in response to a question raised in the Italian parliament about Low Energy Nuclear Reaction as a potential energy solution. A letter by Italian Secretary of State, Professor Claudio De Vincenti was published on 22Passi.blogspot.com which seems to shed doubts upon whether Italian governmental policy would look favorably on E-Cat Technology. Some sections of the letter (Google translated): At the present state of research on low energy nuclear reactions, reproducibility, although improved over the last years of the last century, is still unsatisfactory . . . As for the energy catalyzer called E-Cat . . . it has become evident that many doubts arise on the device due to the fact that the mode of operation have not been disclosed by the inventor. In fact, both the substantive aspects of the fuel composition, the internal structure of the catalyst are still covered by trade secret . . . There are various and conflicting statements by the inventor. Occasionally, Mr Rossi stated that within his unit “does not [...]

With permission I am posting a report written by Brian Josephson, retired professor of physics at Cambridge University, and 1973 Nobel prize winner for physics. Dr. Josephson recently met with Andrea Rossi in Miami. By chance I was in Miami recently and took the opportunity to arrange a meeting with Andrea Rossi. Although I had some questions prepared, our meeting was of the nature of an informal chat over lunch rather than a formal interview. Rossi talked first of all of his ability to run the e-cat stably at high temperatures, quoting a specific temperature of 600 deg. C rather than simply saying ‘high temperature’ as in recent reports. The present effort is concentrated on making the machinery that will build the e-cats, and the second buyer does not yet at this time have any e-cats to comment on. The promised detailed account of the workings of the e-cat will be given when production is sufficiently advanced and patents have been granted, which he anticipates will happen in the next few months (on the question of how genuine all this is, see the end of this report). Through our discussions I have come to understand what may underlie some of [...]

I had the opportunity to speak with Andrea Rossi via Skype, on Saturday, May 12, 2012. Below is a transcript of the interview, and at the bottom of the page links to the three mp3 audio files on which the interview were recorded. During the interview, the Skype connection dropped a couple of times, so it was recorded in three parts. I apologize for the poor quality of the audio — certainly not up to production standards. I had a Skype plugin fail on me last time I interviewed Rossi, so I went for the safe option this time — I recorded the conversation into Audacity using a built in laptop mic. Low tech, but at least I had a recording! Frank Acland: So we are speaking this morning to Andrea Rossi who is in Miami, and its a pleasure to have you join us, Andrea. Andrea Rossi: It is a pleasure for me to be here with you and thank you for your attention. F. Okay, you are very welcome. I would like to start out by talking about — you mentioned recently that you have made a breakthrough with stable heat production. Could you tell us a little [...]
