He also appears to be mixing up the pyrometer used by Rossi, which does have built-in emissivity compensation, with the IR camera used in the test, which does not. The white stick-on dots were used in the March tests to calibrate the IR cameras accurately.

By using emissivity (ε) in the calculations contained in the paper, the testers are, as they claim, using the most conservative figure. Lower figures for ε would &lt;b&gt;increase&lt;/b&gt; the calculated temperature, because less IR is emitted (relative to a perfect black body, ε=1) for any given temperature. Using a lower figure for ε would therefore increase the calculated energy output, not decrease it.]]></description>
